Read Time:3 Minute, 5 Second

Turmeric has been a staple in many Indian and Southeast Asian cuisines for centuries. Not only is it a flavorful spice that adds depth and complexity to dishes, but it also has numerous health benefits. Organic turmeric powder, made from the dried root of the turmeric plant, is a versatile ingredient that can be used in various dishes.

In this blog post, you can explore the culinary uses of turmeric powder and provide some delicious recipes to spice up your meals.

Soups and Stews

You can add turmeric to soups and stews. Its warm, earthy flavour pairs well with vegetables, lentils, and meats.

One delicious recipe to try is turmeric lentil soup. To make this soup, sauté diced onions, carrots, and celery in a pot until they are soft. Add vegetable broth, red lentils, canned tomatoes, and a teaspoon of turmeric powder. Let the soup simmer for 20-25 minutes until the lentils are cooked.

Rice Dishes

Turmeric is also a great addition to rice dishes. You can use organic turmeric powder to make yellow rice, a staple in many Latin American and Caribbean cuisines.

To make yellow rice, rinse 2 cups of white rice and set it aside. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pot and add one diced onion, one green pepper, and two minced garlic cloves. Sauté until the vegetables are soft. Add one teaspoon of turmeric powder and stir until the vegetables are coated. Add the rice and stir till it is coated with the vegetable mixture. Add 4 cups of chicken or vegetable broth and bring to a boil. Now, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the rice cook for about 18-20 minutes.

Meat Dishes

Turmeric is a great addition to meat dishes, especially when paired with other spices like cumin and coriander. Organic turmeric powder can add a beautiful golden colour to chicken, beef, or lamb.

One delicious recipe to try is turmeric chicken kebabs. To make these kebabs, marinate chicken chunks in a mixture of yogurt, lemon juice, cumin, coriander, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and turmeric powder for at least 30 minutes. Thread the chicken onto skewers and grill until cooked through.

Smoothies and Drinks

You can also use turmeric in smoothies and drinks to boost flavour and get health benefits. It is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, making it a great addition to post-workout smoothies.

One delicious smoothie recipe to try is a turmeric mango smoothie. Blend frozen mango, Greek yogurt, almond milk, honey, and a teaspoon of turmeric powder until smooth.

Turmeric in Baked Foods

Turmeric can also be used in baked foods, adding a warm, earthy flavour to cakes, bread, and cookies. Add turmeric to them to give a beautiful golden colour to baked foods.

One delicious recipe to try is turmeric coconut bread. To make this bread, whisk together flour, baking powder, turmeric powder, and salt in a bowl. Mix coconut milk, honey, and melted coconut oil separately. Add the wet and the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Pour this batter into a greased pan and bake at 350°F for about one hour or until you can insert a toothpick in the centre and it comes out clean.

Turmeric is a versatile ingredient that can be incorporated into anything, from soups and stews to smoothies. It not only adds flavour and colour to dishes but also has numerous health benefits. Incorporating organic turmeric into your cooking can be a great way to add some spice to your meals while reaping its benefits. So, add a pinch of turmeric to your next meal and enjoy the warm, earthy flavour it brings.
